The DREAM Act
I found this article very interesting and it is one that you should definitely read because it pertains to college education. I saw the article on the DREAM Act at statesman.com and I found to be very interesting so I researched it further and found this website that has all the information pertaining to the bill. Check it out at National Immigration Forum . I first heard about the DREAM Act on the spanish cable channel, Univision, about two years ago. At the time, they were interviewing high school students who wanted to go to college but found it impossible because of the high tuition rates. Luckily, now thirteen states have allowed in-state tuition for illegal immigrants. The DREAM Act is a bill, that if enacted into law, would permit illegal immigrants who attend college or enlist in the military to apply for permanent resident status. Currently, illegal immigrants who graduate from high school are permitted to attend college and are charged in-state tuition in some states, but upon graduation they can't get a job because they are here illegally. It makes sense that if an illegal immigrant is permitted to attend college, then he/she should be able to get a job upon graduation. What is the point of getting a college education if you cannot put it to good use? It seems that all our legislators don't agree with the bill because it has failed to win the necessary votes and it has been rejected several times.
