Comment on Obama's lack of job creation

I have to admit that I was pretty clueless when it came to the process of getting legislation passed in Congress.  I didn’t realize the amount of time and work it took to get laws passed and that it had to be approved by two chambers.  This government course has opened my eyes to how our government works, what the function and duty of each branch of government is and our civil duties as constituents.  A good example of trying to get legislation passed and failing is in the blog posted by Payal Vora regarding the lack of job creation by the Obama administration and titled Obama's Plea to Congress....Get this Past.

I went online and looked for more information on how Obama has tried to create jobs.  I believe that the blog lacked information regarding the job creation bill that Obama has tried to pass through the Senate.  It’s not that Obama isn’t trying to get jobs created for the American people; the problem is that lawmakers don’t agree with his way of creating jobs and therefore, last month, blocked his job act.   The original job act named, American Jobs Act¸ would’ve cost $447 billion dollars.  Then, Democrats broke the job act into pieces and it is currently being debated in the Senate.  This job act includes $50 billion to improve roads, airports, transit and rail.  Obama has proposed that it would be paid by taxing the wealthy 0.7 percent surtax on modified gross incomes above $1 million a year.

A couple of good points, I think, to Obama’s original job act, American Jobs Act, was an extension of unemployment benefits for the five million Americans that are currently unemployed.  This measure was good in that all the money would be put back into the economy because the unemployed will spend all of the money.  He also included plan to invest $50 billion into improving our highways, transit, rail, and aviation, which would in turn help put hundreds of thousands of construction workers back to work.  I found this information at http://www.whitehouse.gov/the-press-office/2011/09/08/fact-sheet-american-jobs-act. It also states the way Obama planned to pay for the job act:  “Fully paid for as Part of the President’s Long-Term Deficit Reduction Plan.”  He “will call on the Joint Committee to come up with additional deficit reduction necessary to pay for the Act and still meet its deficit target.

Thanks to Payal for choosing to post a blog regarding the job bill.  I think it is good for us to know how lawmakers and the President are trying to change our lives and how they plan to pay for the different bills they want to pass through Congress.
